Big-Time Poker Tournament Coming to Council Bluffs

Poker pro, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson is one of the high-quality players around the world, invited to Council Bluffs for the state’s first ever World Series of Poker (WSOP) Qualifying Tournament at Harrah's Horseshoe Casino.

Administrators presume that a prize pool of in excess $1 million is expected to hit the tournament, which is scheduled to take place from January 29, 2006 to February 7, 2006.

The winner for this coveted event will also get a ring along with a seat at "Big Table" in Las Vegas for the 2007 World Series of Poker. Talking about WSOP 2006, the pot's worth is expected to be more than $12 millions, and also sure to draw in players around $10,000.

Enthusiastic players willing to participate and gamble up for the pot (ranging from $340 to $1,570) in Council Bluffs can enter 1 of 7 No-Limit games, which will culminate in the main event with a buy-in of $5,150.

Dwight Yang, spokeswoman for the Council Bluffs Casino said, "Overall, we expect a lot of local players, but  we are also marketing and expecting a substantial regional mix of players," plus players who follow the pro poker circuit.

The World Series of Poker commenced in the year 1969 and turned out to be the most prestigious tournament in poker, both in terms of reputation as well as in cash prize.

The poker later gained prominence, particularly with the introduction of the TV-friendly Texas Hold'em game, which was explored towards the end of 1990s. This was mainly due to ESPN’s coverage, which has telecasted the event (WSOP). Later, commercials followed and players like Ferguson, Chris Moneymaker, Jamie Gold, Annie Duke, etc started to compete for high cash prizes.

Official sources say that Gordon could well be the first big name to take part in Council Bluffs.

We are planning to try to bring others who have expressed interest.  Poker players and celebrities who enter these events often decide to show up at the last  second, and unfortunately sometimes cancel at the last second.
