France Follows Suit |
Poker is a beautiful game and that is glorified by the fact that it is spreading very quickly throughout the world, and France is no exception to it. People in France have become very enthusiastic to follow and play this game, and it is for sure that poker has a very bright future in France. Poker communities in France have really sprouted up in the recent past and the game is followed through various means like Internet and Casinos amongst others. Some incidents in the recent past have really thwarted the development of poker in France.
The French authorities have started a crackdown on online gambling, and online poker is sure to suffer with this strange decision that they have taken. The French authorities have been following the U.S. footsteps, which had earlier passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. The police had taken the Bwin executives into custody in the South of France, September 2006. The French authorities have formulated severe strategies to counter the growth of gaming websites and have already started taking serious steps from December last year.
An exclusive club in France called Le Salon des Ambassadeurs has banned the display of PokerStars posters and Chris Moneymaker’s images, and this is because of the immense pressure that is being levied by the French authorities. The saddest part of all is that Deauville has been removed from the list of European Poker Tour venues and it is very sad news for poker followers who have been witness to staggeringly sensational tournaments in 2005 and 2006.
Poker as we all know will definitely bounce back to make an even bigger impression, and only time will reveal its potential.
