The $1 million guaranteed prize pool at the
PokerStars went underway with a buy-in of $500 + $30. Overall, there were 2,794 players fighting for a cash prize of $1,397,000. Incidentally, this prize pool broke the previous record for the prize pool at PokerStars, by more than $50,000.
At the outset, it was Jon "Apestyles" Van Fleet started gaining a good chip lead at the 2 tables. Then later, Apestyles held with $9.9 million followed by Jovial Gent with $5.3 million, and Realest8 caught up with $700,000 in chips. Then Realest8 shoved in for the preflop and showed K Q , but the preflop turned out to be when it spiked a queen for Apestyles.
The next elimination was reviewed by Apestyles when he said, simply "wow." Then, Jovial Gent raised. Apestyles juggernaut continued throughout the final table action and he sat with $16.9 million compared to Jovial Gent who was with $4.4 million.
Jesseduke finished at No.4 earning $65,240, and
Apestyles had almost $20 million, whereas Jovial Gent was having $8 million.
Then, Jovial Gent raised to $600,000. Then Apestyles called. The flop came 10 8 8 . Again, Apestyles bet $800,000 and Jovial Gent raised $2 million. Apestyles again reraised to $4 million forcing Jovial Gent to push all-in for his $8.6 million.
Finally, Apestyles folded the big pot to Jovial Gent, and the stacks were now literally tied at $14 million
apiece. After sometime, Jovial Gent raised $640,000 preflop. Again, it was Apestyles turn to reraise $2.16 million.
Apestyles showed pocket kings, and Jovial Gent flipped up Q 10. Eventually, Apestyles earned $135,230 for his No.2 position. Jovial Gent earned $250,203, winning the title.
