J.C. Tran claims the Main Event WCOOP Title

J. C. Tran bagged the Main Event title, which was indeed the biggest online event in terms of prize money. He finally won the 5th Annual World Series of Online Poker Main Event putting curtains on the event, which lasted for more than 2 weeks.

The total prize money came down to a whopping $6.275 million, out of which the winner was awarded $1,157,737.50. In all, it took almost 11 hours for the 2500 players to compete for this title, which was creating history for the total prize money.

Serb2127 was the first one to depart. Numie2 was raising $200,000, and serb2127 was just pushing all-in, literally waiting for Numie2 make the call. Serb2127 finally showed A-J, but Numie2 was always going to be ahead with A-K. After that, when 2 more kings flopped, and there was hardly any assistance which came to serb2127, and was quickly removed. Numie2 draws first blood over Serb2127 even after a good aggressive all-in. Finally, allowing Serb2127 to settle in 9th position.

It was then the British pro Ben Grundy Milkybarkid’s turn to exit. Milkybarkid suffered 12 big losses in 6 hands consecutively. Initially, Grundy called all-in with A-K. When he found that no ace arrived, Deezzz came right from the bottom to the middle place. This on the other hand saw Grundy crippling. Annette_15 committed and made a preflop raise for $300,000. This was immediately folded around to Lefort in the big blind. Again, Lefort reraised and pushed all-in to $1.7 million leaving nothing for Annette_15 who eventually was made to think hard and then finally made the call, which left Annette_15 in 7th position.

Godfather 72, then knocked out Deezzz_Nuts enabling him to the nominal 6th position.  The 5-2-9-K-9 board improved neither player, and five players were left to battle for. The next encounter was between Lefort and Godfather 72. First, Lefort raised to $333,333 and then Godfather called the blind. Then the flop came 7h-Jh-6d, which made Godfather to verify and then pushed all his remaining $3.03 million after a second jack fell on the turn. His bluff came A-5 while Lefort showed 7s sending Godfather to No.4, but all this did not stop Tran from dominating the chip lead.

The event concluded in a dramatic way. It was full of turnarounds and back-to-back hands. It was exit of short-sacked, who finished 3rd. He lost to Hannibalrex's pocket 5s. The 3-8-J-6-9 board would offer no help, and with Lefort eliminated, heads-up action had the chance to last for some time. Then it was Tran who had accumulated $18.6 million, against Hannibalrex at $6.4 million. He then made the all-in push on the turn. Then, Hannibalrex was forced to make a call which is in excess $5 million. Remember he was holding nothing more than A-4 which is deemed to be an underpair. He was very nervous understandably so because he was running behind Tran for the title. Finally Tran showed the top pair of K-P. This provided both the players 2 pairs, but eventually left Tran ahead in the hand, and made him the win the 2006 WCOOP Main Event.
