Joseph Hachem

Joseph Hachem

Poker has become part of the life, and indeed has become family business says Joseph Hachem. His brother, cousin, and also his close associate (brother-in-law) have also initiated playing poker. And why not? He has influenced them by winning the WSOP Event.

Quote of the Player

"A million dollars changed my life, let alone $7.5 million. It changed everything. I can look after my family, my mum, my kids. The money's great, I'd be lying if I said it's not. But the bracelet is the thing. It's an honor and privilege to wear it."

About Him

Joseph Hachem spellbound the world of poker when he overcame approximately 5000 players including the Steve Dannenmann and won the 2005 World Series of Poker Main Event with record breaking prize money worth $7.5 million dollars.  He was a resident of Lebanon, but later moved to Australia where he is now residing with his family.

He was originally a chiropractor by profession, but later he was forced to give up the profession. When his career was at crossroads, he has taken up poker. He seldomly used to go to the Crown Casino (Australia), but he used to play frequently online. The biggest controversy came on the tax to be levied when he first won the WSDOP Event for prize money of $7,500,000. Several doubts have been raised whether he is a poker player by profession or not. The particular fact as to whether he is a professional poker player or whether he needs to be charged accordingly remained unknown.

Hachem began playing seriously during 2003, and since then became famous character at many tables in Australia. He tasted success seldom until he faced Aaron Kanter with a short stack in a tournament, he was not supposed to win. Today, Hachem plays high-quality poker and even after winning the biggest poker tournament in the world, Hachem still spends a lot of time playing online poker. Hachem is currently associated with PokerStars. With over 1,00,000 raked hands, it is highly unlikely that you can spot him at some of the high stake tables.

Poker Career

In the year 2005, Hachem saw his friend winning a trip and an entry into PokerStars. This prompted him to play poker seriously. Joseph Hachem is a 39-year-old Lebanon-born professional player currently living in Australia. He is the new World Champion of Poker. Incidentally, this was his first victory in the World Series of Poker Event, though was associated with poker since a decade.

He was struggling with a short stack for most of the final table until finally he got a fortunate break against Aaron Kanter who limped-in on the button, and literally went on to raise $1 million. Then Hachem moved all-in. At this particular point of time, eventually lost his hand perhaps least speaking would have been in the 4th place. But luck favoured Joseph and he was calling all the shots right that night well and truly belonged to Joseph. The flop came giving him a pair of queens and since then he hasn’t turned back.

He slowly but surely tactically built his stack and later he turned out to be the chip leader for the heads-up play against the rival Steven Dannenmann. Believe it, it took only 6 hands for him to win against Dannenmann for all the remaining chips. Since then, he hasn’t turned back, and he went on the claim the World’s most coveted position by winning the WSOP Event, claiming the prize money $7,500,000 and received accolades from his colleagues.
