BetFair Asian Poker Tour Results

Ten players battled it out for a cash prize of $451,000 (US) and bragging rights, and more than 300 players turned up in Singapore to compete in the Texas Hold'em main event of the BetFair Poker Asian Poker Tour.

Tony Guoga won the first place in the Inaugural BetFair Asian Poker Tour held in Singapore. Tony seemed to be flawless, and was going from strength to strength. He displayed an impeccable game with great timing and hardly put his foot wrong.

He dominated the proceedings with his aggressive play. He won a cash prize of $451,700, out of which he has promptly donated half the amount to charity. This money would go to the Asian and Australian charities to be chosen by BetFair Poker who were sponsors of the event.

Tony Guoga said, "I want people to know that poker is a sport." "This is not a large amount compared to what people like Bill Gates give to charity, but it is a gesture to show that it's not all about the money. It's about the competition as well."

He got through all the challenges from top pro Lee Nelson, Swede and overnight chip leader Samuel Lehtonen, and local player Joshua Ang.

It was always presumed that the final table was never going to be easy, and it exactly turned out to be the same. The final table wasn’t cakewalk for any of the players, and in fact it became a tough battle throughout the day. Guoga eventually had to deal with the chip leader coming into the final table, Lehtonen, as well as pro Lee Nelson. Remember, the local favorite Ana Pang Leng was also part of this table. So obviously, the expectations were huge.

Heads-up came down to Guoga against Leng, but the final hand turned out to be a miserable one, and Leng was totally disappointed. He turned over Ace-Jack whereas Guoga’s hand, 10-6, which dominated pre-flop. Now all that has changed, when Guoga hit a ten on the flop and nothing came on the turn for Leng. The final hand was all-in after the flop. Joshua’s ace-jack failed to beat ten-six after Tony hit a ten on the flop.

But it was Tony "G" Guoga who eventually had the last laugh at the inaugural BetFair Asian Poker Tournament. Also, Singaporean Joshua Ang made an impressive 2nd place finish on his home turf to win $223,000. Lee Nelson from New Zealand managed to finish at No.3.

In a good gesture, Tony "G" handed over the first place trophy to Joshua Ang saying that he would like to see the trophy in Singapore.
