About Jennifer Harman

Her First Job

Jennifer’s first job was at a casino as a waitress. She needed this job after her high school graduation. As she watched other gamblers came and go by, her interest into playing the game grew literally.

Her University Days

To an extent, her refined poker skills are only because Harman had to play poker for money in order to sustain herself at the University while she studied biology and maths. As the family couldn’t afford to pay her enough, Jennifer decided to try her hands at poker, as going for a full-time job was out of question. Here, she started making money and realized her hidden potential that she had for the cards.

Poker Career

Into the Real World of Poker

After doing her majors in Biology, she realized that she was not all that keen to make her career in it. For her, raising money in the Poker Tournaments made much more sense instead of a traditional job. It was a tough decision, as her father didn’t approve her idea at all. Consequently, she had to disassociate herself from her family.

For Harman, it was tough going against the wishes of her family;however, she won the heart of her family members once she proved that even playing poker is also a respected means to earn a living. Although, she didn’t had any major wins at her credit at that time. She proved that professional poker demanded as much skill, attention, and analyzing powers as any other job or profession would.

Defining Moments in Her Career

It was in the mid 80s when Harman turned professional and began her poker career from $50-100 limits to $100-200, and later eventually on to $400-800 and much higher. Today, she is one of the best and most admired players to play in a very highest limit games in the world.

The Journey of Successes

Jennifer Harman today has turned out to be the only woman poker in the world to win 2 WSOP bracelets in events. Apart from that, she has made several World Poker Tour appearances including the Bellagio Five Diamond Event.

Her wins, however, did not come easy. In the 90s, as Jennifer was gaining confidence slowly and slowly, she realized that competing in the real world of poker was really tough.

After playing a couple of Texas Hold’em games, she started participating into cash games. In one of the games she played, she happened to meet the two greats of the game Doyle Brunson and Daniel Negreanu, and she learned few of her poker tactics from both of them. Some of the other people who have tutored her are Chip Reese and Ted Forrest. She values Daniel Negreanu very high for assisting her with the N/L game.

Other Pursuits

Jennifer had to miss the World Series of Poker in 2004, as she had a kidney transplant. Since then, she had a dream of making other people aware of the option of being an organ donor.
In order to educate people about donor awareness, it is her wish to conduct the Jen Harman Challenge as a charity event where people can contribute and help in the form of donating money.

Today, she is lived by her loving husband, Marco, and her four pet dogs.
