About Maria Stern |
She started her career at the Golden Nugget and soon found herself playing regularly in tournaments at the
Aladdin and Commerce Casino in Los Angeles. She made her mark by winning several tournaments at these venues.

Defining Moments in Her Career
Maria also came into the glare in 1992 when she secured 4th position in the 23rd Annual World Series of Poker Ladies' Stud event. Like many other players, she then went for a long break, not be seen or heard until 1997 again.
Maria is married to another bracelet winner, Max Stern. Both of them form a great pair and have won various tournaments.
Her Special Win
The best time was of course when Maria won a gold bracelet in the 1997 World Series of Poker, Limit 7 Stud. This day was also special as she was celebrating her 40th Wedding Anniversary.
Maria and Max’s Special Record
Combined with husband Max, Maria holds a very special record. In the year 1997 World Series of Poker (WSOP), Maria triumphed and secured a gold bracelet in the 7-Card Stud, $1500 buy-in event and secured a decent 4th position in the WSOP Women's top money list. In the same year, her husband, Max won two bracelets, the $1500 No-Limit Hold’em event and 7-Card Stud event.
Although, there would be many other couples in the poker world who have claimed bracelets, but Max and Maria are the only people who joined the elite club of winning during the same year.
