About Him
The 47-year-old Tom Schneider hails from Indianapolis, but has settled in Scottsdale, Arizona to make a career in poker. Before becoming a poker pro, he was a certified public accountant, and also owned a golf supply company. But he now plays at very high limits in cash games and uses poker as a means to make a very good living.
Being a resident of Arizona, Schneider initially played poker with his Mom. Later he invited his friends and started playing with them, when his mother was baby-sitting (taking care) of his sister. He said “I really didn’t do such a great job of babysitting, but I did a pretty good job of playing poker. I used to beat my friends all the time”.
“You start to understand how people think and what they're thinking about and I've applied it to poker,? Schneider said.
This 2007 WSOP was Schneider's 3rd appearance and has made it to the WSOP final table. This first place earned him a cash prize of $214,387 – and the coveted WSOP gold bracelet designed and manufactured by luxury Swiss watchmaker Corum. His previously finished at No.4 and No.5
Poker Carrer
Tom Schneider hails from Phoenix, Arizona; it is really a bit difficult to say whether Schneider is a comedian, a philosopher or a poker pro since he seems to have all the bases covered. However, Schneider found a way to pursue all the three paths. He started playing poker very early. He said “I started playing with my mom when I was probably eight or nine years old. She's not a very good poker player. But, she did like to play, she liked to gamble and I think she tried to give me her money that way”.
Schneider initially played free games, but late started playing cash games around $400-800 mixed – which is ideally regarded to be the benchmark of "world class" player. He won several tournaments including some of the prestigious events like 1st in 2007 WSOP Pot Limit Omaha & 7 Card Stud Hi / Lo, Event #5, 3rd in 2006 World Poker Challenge - WPT Season 4, Main Event, NLH, 4th in 2002 WSOP Pot Limit Hold'em, Event #17, 5th in 2006 WSOP Shootout - Limit Hold'em, Event #36
