Phil Hellmuth has added an extra feather to his cap. His 104th place finish in the event # 8, $2,000 buy-in No Limit Hold Em tournament, marked yet another accolade for this poker pro.
By winning $3,901 for his finish, he has a new world record of 58 cashes in the World Series of Poker events. With this triumph, he has surpassed his own previous record of 57.
Phil Hellmuth is no doubt one of the best poke players in the world. He may not be famous for his behaviour at the tables, but his standing as a poker idol is unarguable.
Hellmuth’s post-bad beat antics are often zany.
Imagine his ousting from the Event 3 of the 2007 WSOP. He got all his money before the flop with pocket kings, literally found himself in a Preflop showdown, and all this against an unseeded opponent, who later turned over jacks.
The flop came , sending his opponent in lead, and at the same time leaving Hellmuth with 11 outs to catch back. Frustrated Jack throwed all his cards in air in disbelief saying "is this how it's going to be all series?"
Bad beats are bound to be experienced by all the players irrespective and having said that, there’s surely a cause to argue against unsportsmanlike behavior in poker. But in contrast, when you get money in the pot with the best hand, as regularly as Phil gets, then you’re surely going to take quite a few beats.
Hardly one week into the 2007 World Series of Poker, and with several hands to be still played, jut imagine how many finishes would Phil end up in this year? Moreover, with the expanded slate of events, who knows, Phil could end up at 70 cashes. Currently, Phil Hellmuth, Johnny Chan, and Doyle Brunson hold the world record for the most WSOP bracelets won (10).
