Player of the Year Award Criteria Announced

Milwaukee’s Best Light - the World Series of Poker has announced the criteria for the “Player of the Year Award.” Player who accumulates the most number of points throughout the 2007 WSOP would be presented with this player of the year award. These points would be based and calculated upon the finishing position in all the bracelet events, except for the Main Event and $50,000 H.O.R.S.E.

Championship, since it is an event which is an acronym for five different types of poker.
Jeffrey Pollack, commissioner of the World Series of Poker, said “We now have a triple crown at the WSOP – the Main Event and HORSE titles and the Player of the Year designation. This award puts all poker players on a level playing field and underscores our belief that every bracelet event is important, regardless of field size, buy-in or variety of game.”

Apart from the official trophy, the Milwaukee’s Best Light’s Player of the Year would be given an entry to different WSOP tournaments and events for the next year. The winner would receive $5000 as a part of travel and accommodation package, as well as buy-in for the Main Event at the World Series of Poker Europe, a World Series of Poker circuit event of the winner’s pick.

T. V. Stewart, director of sponsorship and licensing for Harrah’s Entertainment said “This is another example of Miller Brewing Company’s commitment to the WSOP.  Miller’s multi-year sponsorship of the tournament and the ESPN broadcasts have been major factors in the explosive growth of the WSOP.  This award is sure to create incremental excitement and give our growing fan base a new way to follow the action.”

Dockery Clark, director, sports and alliance marketing for Miller Brewing Company said “We’re thrilled to sponsor the Milwaukee’s Best Light Player of the Year Award to identify the best performance over the course of the entire WSOP.  With any bracelet being so difficult to win, players have asked for recognition of cumulative accomplishment over a series of events.”

All these points would be awarded to the players finishing in the top 10 percent of the fielded number of players for the qualifying event. Player who finishes at No.1 gets 100 points, player who finishes in second position would get 75, third gets 60 points, fourth 55, fifth 50, sixth place finisher would get 45, seventh, eighth, ninth finishes would get 40, 35 & 30 repetitively. And finishes from 11th to 18th would attract 20 points, 19th to 27th will earn 10 points and all other in-the-money finishers will earn 5 points. In the case of a tie, total cash won will be the determining factor.
