WSOP 2001 - History and Winner Details |
 |
Carlos Mortensen won the WSOP 2001 Main Event beating Dewey Tomko, winning the $100.000 cash prize. He played aggressively and was always in the race for the title. He was fearless, and of course, had his share of luck. His victorious hand, which quickly followed the punching of the fist and the celebrations, saw him catch the 9 on the river to make a 9-K straight outplaying his opponent Tomko’s
favored Pocket Rockets. The preflop gave Tomko the best chance of winning as he was holding A A . He further raised $100.000 and called. The flop came down to J T 3 enabling Mortensen for high flush draw. This has marked a big moment for Mortensen, and he eventually won the title of 2001 WSOP Championship with $,.500,000 as cash prize.
